Remedies for the Spirit

With Mother's Eyes

I remember how things used to be before they got this way.

I remember how you cared for me, day after day after day.

As your mind and body go, as your spirit starts to wane,

I prepare to say goodbye.  I pray you’re not in pain.

Thank you for your best.  I want to make it known:

“It’s valued more each day, with children of my own.”

How selfish are the young, so quick to criticize.

But I see things clearly now, looking back with Mothers’ Eyes.

I remember how things used to be before they got this way.

I remember how you cared for me, day after day after day.

As your feet no longer dance, as your voice no longer sings,

I cherish all the memories and grieve for many things.

As you sleep away the days, as your state becomes more grave,

I’m humbled and I’m grateful for everything you gave.

Thank you for your love.  I want to make it known:

“It’s valued more each day, with children of my own.”

How selfish are the young, so quick to criticize.

But I see things clearly now, looking back with Mothers’ Eyes.
